A Special Valentine Dinner by Barbara Tenney at KaTom

IMG_6905

When I saw that the dinner was by Barbara Tenney,  I called and reserved a spot immediately. What better way to experience a gourmet Valentine dinner than with local celebrity chef, Barbara Tenney. It was a fabulous dinner with a surprise at the end. Here is how it went…

IMG_6906

I found my place at a front table with some people from Dandridge and Knoxville. I saw the bag and got rather excited because I had seen Barbara’s Facebook post from the day before and hoped that it would be for our dinner that evening.

Barbara Tenney, pictured left, is introduced by Laura, a manager at KaTom. Notice the TV projection overhead from which to see the stovetop action.

Tenderloin is prepared for the oven. It was sear- roasted beef tenderloin with cognac-peppercorn cream sauce. Yes, it was as good as that sounds!

IMG_6914

Table settings are always a delight at KaTom events.

IMG_6915

Prepping the smashed potatoes. A view from above.

IMG_6920

The first course: green salad with roasted pears and blue cheese. Divine!

IMG_6946

Smashed potatoes with horseradish crème fraîche. You can’t overdo horseradish, in my opinion.

IMG_6953

The meal was served with a sign of the holiday. What a nice touch!

IMG_6930

Barbara displays the raspberry chocolate puffs before putting them into the oven at 425°  for 18-20 minutes.

IMG_6966

Warm from the oven and served with raspberry sauce.

IMG_6968

Or, add a drizzle of Ghirardelli chocolate. Bon appetit!

IMG_6945

My wish came true because the gift bags held a home-made chocolate covered marshmallow. A special Valentine to take home from Barbara Tenney’s kitchen. What a great gift!

IMG_6973

For dessert, we got to create a coffee from the best machine in Sevier County. It made the best latte!

KaTom has more cooking demos planned for the spring so go onto their Facebook page and click ‘events’ on the left menu to see upcoming sessions. It is always a pleasure to anything by my favorite celebrity cook, Barbara Tenney.  I wait expectantly for more. It is, as always, a fabulous way to get out and about in Sevierville.

Salt Room + Massage Therapy To Boost Good Health: A Visit to Sevierville Massage Therapy

IMG_6592

We have visited the Salt Cave in Asheville to test the health aspects of it all, but when I heard that there was a salt room in Sevierville then I was amazed. Consequently, I knew that I had to visit as soon as possible. With flu and illnesses running rampant, the time to visit was at hand! I made an appointment for a massage and one session in the salt room at Sevierville Massage Therapy last Friday. Here is how it went…

IMG_6600

They are open until 8:00 p.m. five days a week. This is exceptional because many people may need to go after work. Other places tend to close by 7:00.

Sevierville Massage Therapy is conveniently located around the corner and behind the Sevier County Teachers’ Credit Union, just off Dolly Parton Parkway. Here is a link to the website:

IMG_6618

I entered the front door to find a nice check-in area with various products for sale. I didn’t have to wait.  Anna immediately gave me the information form due to it being my first visit to the business. The process was quick and done in a minute.

IMG_6625

The prices are some of the best to be found anywhere. I chose the 60 minute massage plus a session in the salt cabin. Let them know in advance if you are interested in the hot stones because they require time to heat up. Must do next time!

IMG_6629

The room was warm, dim, cozy, and comfortable. Soft lighting, a heated massage table, and a bolster pillow to place under the legs make for a nice hour of relaxation.

IMG_6631

Recognize these? This is the first time that I have ever seen charging cords for cell phones available in a spa room. Great idea!

IMG_6632

I like the Himalayan salt rocks and may buy some in the future because they are supposed to offer many health benefits. My massage was divine! There were some things that were different. Anna stretched my arms, shoulders, and legs along with the massage.

IMG_6637

Here is the salt cabin. They provide information online in regard to the salt room so I was prepared with a magazine and had socks. In fact, I got excited when I saw the antigravity chairs. These are very comfortable and are the exact same chairs that we use in the Asheville Salt Cave.

IMG_6638Notice the floor holds a great deal of, I assume, Himalayan salt. Anna said that they are continuing to work on the salt cabin, but I didn’t know the difference. I asked for the lights to be left on bright so I could read my new Vanity Fair magazine. I always get a blanket because it can get a little cool during the 45 minutes.

Interestingly, I started noticing effects of sitting in the salt cabin. In the Asheville Salt Cave, I don’t really notice a lot except that my hair feels softer. Also, we tend to go in summer and  fall when I am not suffering from allergies, etc. I actually reached for a tissue before the end of the session. It seemed to loosen up my congestion for hours. Very good!

IMG_6640

If you forget to bring reading material then you can read one of the books on the shelf, if you like. I noticed crayons and paper for children. The third shelf had slip on covers for feet if someone forgets socks. We use them in the Asheville Salt Cave too.

IMG_6641

The building size is deceptive because once you walk in, you can tell that it is about twice as big as you would expect. There are at least 3 massage treatment rooms, a nice bathroom, and the salt cabin.

IMG_6644

At the end of my time at Sevierville Salt Therapy, this motto had become true. Go to Sevierville Massage Therapy to relax, renew, and restore. It is close to downtown and many businesses on Dolly Parton Parkway. You will certainly find a new place to stay healthy this winter when you have to go out into the cold while out and about in Sevierville.

Your Coffee Break Just Got Better: A Visit to Smoky Mountain Espresso

Do you enjoy a fireplace with your morning java? A new coffee place has opened on the corner of Veterans Boulevard and Middle Creek Road that can give you that experience. I took a quick trip to check out Smoky Mountain Espresso this morning. Here is what I found…

IMG_6392

The fireplace is very warm and cozy. You could wear a T-shirt in that spot and be very comfortable. My latte was wonderful.

IMG_6384

Make note! The drive thru window is open at 6:30 a.m. during the week. The front door usually opens by 7:00 in the morning.

There will be a grand opening on Wednesday, February 28th from 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. They will celebrate with $1 lattes and mochas! Scroll their Facebook page to find

https://www.facebook.com/smespresso/

because they have a contest to give away free coffee for a year! ‘Like,’ ‘share,’ or ‘tag’ a friend to enter.

IMG_6343

I found the location to be easy and accessible at 1259 Middle Creek Road. You can see the traffic light in the picture above. In addition, you can see the future location of Sweet Frog Premium Frozen Yogurt next door. The owners ( who own both businesses)  hope to be open by Feb. 14th.

IMG_6356

Walk in the front door and the bathrooms are immediately inside. The open foyer leads to the coffee shop on the left and the yogurt shop on the right.

IMG_6352

This must be good!

I asked them which was the most requested coffee right now and they replied “the Smoky Mountain Mocha.” It can be served hot, cold, or over ice. Also, this month there is a special Chocolate Covered Strawberry coffee. Oh, my!

IMG_6355

Smoky Mountain Espresso is beautifully decorated with a cool, mountain feel. Smoky Mountain Espresso offers coffee, tea, smoothies, and Nitro coffee. Nitro is a very cold brew with a frothy top. Must try one this summer.

IMG_6362

Of course, this was the preferred spot for my skim latte.

IMG_6361

There are plenty of chairs and views of the beautiful hills and woods.

IMG_6376

Like Sweet Frog, this is a Christian owned company. I have always enjoyed the good vibes that you get there so this place is no exception. I enjoyed listening to music by Crowder, Chris Tomlin, and Switchfoot during my time there. The music is very soft so you will have no trouble having a conversation.

IMG_6383

Here is a nice touch…the indoor fireplace is actually a ‘double fireplace’ because it is inside and outside. They will place more tables and chairs in this outdoor area and it will be a great place to enjoy a treat with friends. Or have a faculty meeting? I vote “yes!”

Smoky Mountain Espresso is located across the street from the Holston Conference United Methodist Connexion building, visible in the photo above.

IMG_6386

Treats are available for those who want a snack or breakfast on the go.

IMG_6389

This is the place to go for a gourmet cup of coffee because each one is ground fresh the moment that you order it. I couldn’t help but admire the huge grinders on the counter in front of me.

IMG_6376

This will be quite an asset to Sevierville and I know a lot of people will enjoy a gourmet blend now, whether on the way to work, or on weekends. See more photos on my blog Facebook page for pictures: Out and About in Sevierville.com

I will visit the Smoky Mountain Espresso again soon. Save me a seat on the couch!
