Tiny Houses, RVs, and ‘Glamping’ at Ridge Outdoor Resort

img_5828.jpg

There is a new place to stay overnight in Sevierville with ‘tiny houses’ and RV sites. Soon, there will be ‘glamping’ Safari tents too. Come along and take a quick look at the Ridge Outdoor Resort on Middle Creek Rd, across the street from Sweet Frog Yogurt and Smoky Mountain Espresso.

IMG_5806

This property once was a church, then it belonged to the Holston Methodist Conference.

IMG_5836

You may recognize the building from those previous incarnations. It has since been purchased and quickly becoming a camping destination in Sevierville. The main building can be used for weddings, events, and fundraisers. Inside, one can also find a coffee shop and internet cafe. They are also planning a camping store and a fitness center.

IMG_5832

Each RV spot has a nice set-up. I especially like the round fire bowls. Each RV site will have a picnic table, fire bowl, water, sewer, electric, cable and Ethernet.

img_5808.jpg

The RV area is spacious and has a nice view of the mountains. It is only a small walk to the main building. A resort style swimming pool should be open by June 1st. It will be 116 feet long and will also have a swim shelf.

img_5831-2.jpg

There is a playground for children to enjoy during their stay. A pickle ball area and a basketball court are also in the plans.

IMG_5811

I was especially interested in the ‘tiny houses’ on the property.  I have seen them on HGTV and wanted to see one.

IMG_5812

There was an ‘Open House’ on a Sunday so I was able to look around and take several photos. I can see how campers would enjoy sitting on the deck with such a view and a fire bowl.

IMG_5813

IMG_5816

Doors open wide to a mountain view. The owners’ dog was enjoying the afternoon sun.

IMG_5823

Love the view!

IMG_5821

The dog is posing pretty in the kitchen area.

IMG_5824 2

This will be a nice view from the kitchen sink.

IMG_5819

The bathroom is bright and convenient.

IMG_5825

The bedroom did not feel tiny; rather, it felt compact and comfortable.

IMG_5826 2

A flat screen TV is located at the end of the bed.

IMG_5827

As I strolled back toward the front door, I noticed the nice little table for dining. I think that these tiny houses are manufactured by Clayton Homes. They are extremely nice!

img_5834-2.jpg

You can see that the campground is located conveniently across the street from Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt and Smoky Mountain Espresso Coffee. It is also in view of Middle Creek Road and the larger Veterans Boulevard, very close to Dollywood properties.

I can’t wait to visit again when they put up the ‘glamping’ (glamorous camping) tents soon. The ‘safari tents’ may be ready by July. They are waiting for the orders to arrive from Norway. That is going to be fun!

It is getting even more fun to camp in Sevierville.

First Downtown Sevierville Farmer’s Market 2019

IMG_5977

It was a quick break downtown to see the first Farmer’s Market of 2019.

IMG_5981 2

I parked on Main and Court Avenue, making my way through the arcade to the back of the market.

IMG_5979 2

Downtown is ready for Memorial Day this weekend. It gives one pause to see the flags on display and think about the significance.

IMG_6089

Henderson’s produce is at their usual corner. I can’t tell you how excited I am to see these tomatoes now! At long last!

IMG_6090

Crust and Crumb is located by 20/20 Optical. They also have baked goods available at the Farmer’s Market on Fridays. The photo above shows cinnamon and raisin bagels. Divine!

IMG_6094

One of my new favorite places downtown: Crust and Crumb. Go there for breakfast, lunch, and coffee. Coffee!

IMG_5997 2

This is one of my favorite vendors. I love her soaps and other products. She is so friendly!

IMG_6091

A vintage fire truck was at the market with some firefighters. You don’t see that every day.

IMG_6005 2

IMG_6009

This is an interesting couple. Talk to them some time and hear their story.

IMG_6010

The Sevierville Farmer’s Market is great for families to explore.

IMG_6014

This may be a new vendor. Will check it more closely next week.

IMG_6092

This is another favorite vendor for their beautiful flowers and blooms. They will soon have sunflowers!

IMG_6029

Kyle Grainger from WVLT TV was ready to film for the first day of the market.

IMG_6093

This was the prize of the day! I took a box back to work and brightened 11 colleague’s day with a Ham and Goody’s lemon cookie.

IMG_6018

Music in the background adds a lot to the the shopping experience. Everyone enjoyed it.

IMG_6031

As the church bells began ringing at noon,  crowds began to pour into the market.

IMG_6033 2

It was time for me to go so I took a look a last look back and then headed for lunch at Courthouse Donuts.

IMG_6095

This is my favorite place to hang out. I got a seat by the big window and waited for the special of the day: a tuna melt with a pasta side and a donut. The rocking chair is beautiful and I’ll bet that I know where that came from. Jennifer, owner of Courthouse Donuts, said that she was feeling the impact of the farmer’s market because it was extremely busy all morning. Good news!

Summer is just a few days away. The downtown Sevierville Farmer’s Market is just getting started and I can just imagine the produce that is heading our way from local farmers and growers. The Sevierville Farmer’s Market may be my favorite way to get out and about in Sevierville during the summer.

See you next Friday!

Mountain Zen Yoga in Downtown Sevierville

IMG_4104 2

I attended an Open House for Mountain Zen Yoga on Sunday afternoon and found a new favorite place downtown. This place is an unexpected addition to the downtown Sevierville landscape, but it fits in perfectly. Come along and stretch with me.

IMG_5755

I parked across the street from Graze Burgers and near the Crust and Crumb bakery, two of my other new favorite businesses downtown. Now, add this one to the list.

IMG_5756 2

Mountain Zen Yoga is located in the former bail bondsman office. I think that I will use this business more. 🙂

IMG_5760

The fruit infused water is worth the price of a class! Try this strawberry and citrus water.  Wonderful!

Get the app or book online. Here is the contact info.

IMG_5792

I was greeted at the door by the studio owner, Heather Jagels. I have actually known her for years and just reconnected with her at the Night at the Derby party in April. During college, Heather used yoga to relieve stress. Later, she worked as the VP of Marketing for 3 national television networks: HGTV, DIY Network, and Great American Country. She would travel 14 days out of the month so finding yoga studios kept her healthy on the road. In doing this, she began to dream about having her own studio. She began her dream in downtown Sevierville with the December 1st opening of Mountain Zen Yoga.

IMG_5763 4

The studio is very attractive and comfortable. I loved the floor, ceiling, and big front windows.

IMG_5764 2

Heather says that you can do yoga at any age throughout life. It makes the muscles and core stronger too. I want to be able to hold this pose for 5 seconds by the end of the summer? Stay tuned.

IMG_5767

You are on Bruce Street, but you feel like you have entered a peaceful realm.

IMG_5772

The bolster pillows are so pretty, but are very sturdy and offer good support.

IMG_5773

Remove your shoes at the door and put them in this cubby at the back of the room. You can store your other things in this area as well.

IMG_5776

I stayed for the free class. Curtains were drawn to begin the stretching session. I love the beautiful lighting in the room in this shot. Also, it captures the beautiful floor and ceiling.

IMG_5786

It is so easy to just relax and restore in this room.

IMG_5782

After the relaxing stretch session, we listened to a massage therapist speak about wellness, muscles, and the body.

IMG_5838 3

Here is the contact info for the massage therapist.

IMG_5800 2

This is my goal for 5 years from now. I love the beautiful dancer pose. Heather does it beautifully.

IMG_5804

As you can tell, this is a busy place with classes scheduled all day. This is posted in the front window.

Tips

  • It is easier to come dressed for class. If you need to change, there is a restroom down the hall or a little office upstairs above the yoga room.
  • You can rent a mat for $2 if you need one.
  • If the front door is open then that indicates no class is going on at that moment. If the front door is shut, wait until the class is over to enter the studio.  Go have a coffee at Courthouse Donuts or  Crust and Crumb. Or, run across the street and visit the Arts in Common Gallery or Two Coyotes Studio on Court Avenue. They are all my favorite places downtown and just steps away.
  • Yoga makes your life better and your body stronger. It relieves stress, makes the body stronger, relaxes muscles, and clears the mind. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t need that.
  • I have two friends who love ‘hot’ yoga. It gets up to 95 degrees for that class.
  • Sevier County citizens get a 5% discount. Sevier County teachers get a 10% discount. We could use a lot of yoga benefits right now!
  • There are  5 instructors who teach classes for Mountain Zen Yoga. They are all Yoga Alliance certified teachers. These instructors have different backgrounds and styles so they bring a lot of variety to the studio.
  • Book classes through the app or online.
  • The room holds 14 people and some classes book up so planning is key to reserving a spot.
  • There are at least 3 beginner classes. Rest and Restore is for beginners and takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Conclusion

I am so glad that I was able to attend the Open House and take a quick class with Mountain Zen Yoga in downtown Sevierville. This will be a place that is convenient and on the way to other things that I like to do downtown, especially during the summer. I hope to take classes on a weekly basis this summer. Truly, Mountain Zen Yoga will help to maintain a healthy life and body and that is one of the best reasons to get out and about in Sevierville.

Save a spot for me!

Bloomin’ BBQ and Bluegrass 2019

IMG_5651

This is the premier event for downtown Sevierville—and 2019 didn’t disappoint. There were crowds, great food, music, and a few storms. However, it looked bigger and better than last year. I am ‘limited’ when it comes to heat and crowds so I didn’t linger, but I did manage two quick visits and a few photos.

IMG_5677

I parked near Sevier County Bank and walked in the back way. In doing so, I passed several trailers that housed the cooking competitors. The signs and slogans were fun to view. Here are a few examples in collages.

IMG_5748 2

IMG_5742

IMG_5745

This is a local competitor based in Gatlinburg. It is family owned and operated. Must visit this summer!

IMG_5682

Another well known local competitor.

IMG_5691

IMG_5623

My other interest was the chalk art that would be happening on Bruce Street.

IMG_5695

IMG_5708

IMG_5705

IMG_5707

IMG_5699 2

I saw competitors carrying covered dishes to a secret location on Bruce Street.

IMG_5698

There was tight security for the competition. Would love to be a judge for that!

IMG_5711 2

There were all kinds of gift ideas.

IMG_5729 2

I really appreciated the Bush Beans company for the freebies. There were working hard both days handing out free individual servings of baked beans—perfect for barbecue.

IMG_5733 2

The company even let you take a photo with their mascot, Duke. What a good dog!

IMG_5736 2

Local businesses, like Courthouse Donuts, were open for extended hours during the event.

IMG_5720 2

There were several vendors, but this one has the largest sign and draws the longest lines.

IMG_5722 2

I got a brisket combo to go. It will last all weekend. So good! I will go back to them next year.

IMG_5725 2

That looks like enough sauce.

IMG_5715 2

Tents lined Court Avenue. I thought that all the vendors had good things to offer.

IMG_5726 2

Non-stop entertainment on the Bush stage.

IMG_5735 2

The Sevier County Courthouse had a crowd and non-stop entertainment as well.

IMG_5737 2A tip for next year: there was nice shade on the sidewalk across from the courthouse on Court Avenue. This would be a nice break or meet-up area out of the sun. If the dining tent were crowded then I spied a few shady steps here on which to sit.

Sorry that I didn’t get any people pictures—I am just not good in heat and crowds! However, these photos will give visitors a glimpse of what to enjoy next year. It is one of the best ways to be out and about in Sevierville.

Gas Station Coffee Truck

IMG_5484

It was like a birthday…like Christmas…like a dream come true. We had a coffee truck at work this morning! It was absolutely amazing too!

IMG_5493

After a week of wonderful things, our PTO arranged for a coffee truck to come for a couple of hours this morning. This was a week never to be forgotten. I looked forward to the coffee truck for days!

IMG_5488

This special coffee truck company is called Gas Station Coffee. It had fantastic hot and iced coffees. Unbelievably good!

IMG_5490

Joy in a cup!

IMG_5492

My friends waiting for their orders. We were all so happy for this treat and it showed on our faces.

IMG_5494

Absolutely true!

IMG_5491

This was Wendy’s Frozen White Chocolate Mocha. Oh my!

IMG_5495

Starting the day in an amazing way! Wendy and Ursula ordered wonderful coffee concoctions!

IMG_5496

I will order a White Chocolate Mocha next time!

IMG_5499

Kayla’s frozen concoction was the Frozen Chocolate Horse. I heard it was a favorite!

IMG_5501

Cory recommends the Iced White Chocolate Mocha. Divine!

IMG_5503

Teresa was ready to take on the day with her order. They all were excellent!

IMG_5493

I am going to post this picture again for another incredible fact—the owners designed and built this truck themselves. I could not help but touch and admire the beautiful touches on the vehicle. Not only do they create amazing coffees, but they built this food truck. Unbelievable!

Gas Station Food Truck mainly attends fairs and festivals so keep up with their whereabouts on their Facebook page. Here is a link:

They can also be found on Instagram at A Little Coffee TN .

I like to discover and promote small businesses. This one really rocked our day!
